[Anime of the Week] Papa no Ikukoto wo Kikinasai (2/12-18/2012)

Image copyright.... well I honestly don't know.

Papa no Ikukoto is currently airing on TV in Japan with 6 episodes out as I type this. At first I was really hesitant about watching this series because it was bound to be "moe bullshit" as my friend Elijah would say or full of too much fan service for my taste. I decided after my friend Ty told me about the concept in his own words I would give the series a try. Now bear in mind Ty is what I call a "Touhou,Moe & loli Fag" because he likes the three with an extreme passion... so trusting him on things moe, and loli for that matter is a very risky thing to do. BUT I ended up watching the 4 episodes that were out at the time and can't wait each week for the new episode :D <3 It's a fantastic series, well worth watching.

Sorry the below video isn't translated in English.

Review: "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles- The Ultimate Collection Vol.1" Hardcover

By Mike The Fanboyable

Hey, folks! Mike here again! This time I will review the hardcover edition of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles-The Ultimate Collection Vol. 1" This edition, published by IDW, collects the first seven issues of the first comic series written and drawn by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird that began publication in 1984.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a very mainstream property now, but the concept had started as an underground comicbook published by an independent company called Mirage Studios. Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird created The Turtles as a parodical answer to the popular comicbook titles of the early 1980's such as Marvel's "Daredevil", and "The New Mutants", Dave Sim's "Cerberus", and Frank Miller's "Ronin".

I'm sure you know some of the basics; Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michaelangelo are teen mutant humanoid ninja turtles who reside beneath the streets of New York City under the guidance of their mutant rat mentor Master Splinter. We also get to see The Turtles confront familiar villains like The Shredder, The Foot Clan, The Mousers, The Triceratons, and Baxter Stockman, as well as villains that seemed to have inspired the villains we would come to see in the 1987 animated series. You will see how The Turtles met April O'Neill and see what she actually did before becoming a news reporter, then the sports-crazed vigilante Casey Jones, and the mysterious robot Honeycutt, as he accompanies them to an outer space adventure.

The stories are both gritty and humorous. The influences of Jack Kirby, Frank Miller, and Dave Sim are mentioned. There's a good amont of fighting that includes hacking and slashing, and there's plenty of amusing craziness going around.

IDW really did a good job with the quality of the pages. As they are in black and white, they give off an exuberant cinematic-like feel. Also, at the end of each story, there's an overview by Eastman and Laird on what was on their minds when they were doing a particular issue.

So, all in all, this is a very entertaining book. If you love the property or the outrageousness that come with underground comics, this is worth checking out. Turtle Power all the way!!

Ukraine never sounded so lovely

Voice of Steel

Little Duckies, today I bring an offering from the bowels of the most metal part itself. In this episode of “Bands that Alex likes on ice in 3-D” comes a complex, beautiful accomplishment from today’s band “Nokturnal Mortum”.

Voice of Steel MOTHERFUCKER

Hailing from the Ukraine, “Nokturnal Mortum” started out in humble beginnings….As a Black Metal band. So already having practice since 1994 makes this CD just bring in all of the different styles this band has to offer.

This album will just take you...By force

Beginning with an intro of a haunting horn dwelling into a traditional medley consisting of skin drums and what may or may not be bagpipes, the CD begins. Sounds of a blacksmith hard at work is audible at the very start of the second track “Voice of steel” accompanied with some of the heaviest drums/bass /guitar heard in a long while. Continuing on the amazing nine minute barrage of amazingness, that is only the beginning, pretty subtle compared to the rest of the album.

Or so you think

If you can even believe the Third track “Valkyrie” is even better. Begins so suddenly then slowly but surely condescends into slow, mellow melodies.

Onwards to my personal Favorite track from the album, “Ukraine”. No, it is not the national anthem….But it very well should be. This eight minute piece may very well have been plucked from the ear drum of an angel/demon (whichever is more metal to you). Combining beautiful chanting vocals amidst the very brash growls we have become very accustomed to, “Ukraine” just shines with a love for their country so high not even Hulk Hogan could stand up to it.

not even he can help us

While slowly fading out “Ukraine” becomes “My Dream Islands”, an eleven minute jam-out (or so it sounds that way) a slow descent into madness, a circus of different “experimental” sounds all jumbled into one great track.

We still have three tracks to go, BUT I REALLY want all the duckies from the interbutts to look for this album. It is that good. Every song on this album sounds completely different from each other. Even though all of the songs are in Ukrainian, you can feel the love, sweat, tears, and aspirations that this band wanted you to hear with “Voice of Steel”. Very fast paced and energetic sans the last two songs, “Voice of Steel” just does it right. In my opinion it is one of the most perfect albums out there, while it is my opinion I strongly urge you guys to listen to it.

Welp guys this album review was awesome, but alas I am late with this one as is. Time to work on another one lol. Until next time.

Before I go, I leave you with the majesty of Ukraine
