[Drama of the Week] 1 Liter of Tears (4/1-7/2012)

Image copyright goes out to Satoko Kashikawa

My first drama series was Densha Otoko followed by 1 Liter of Tears which to this day remains one of my favorites and go to dramas when people ask me for recommendations. It actually is a drama in the sense you will be tearing up either from time to time or through out the whole thing like I was. It's ok men, crying is a sign of strength ;)

Runtime: 24 min/ep
# of episodes:11
Type: Novel/ based on true story
Rating: Teen
Synopsis:
This beautifully moving drama is based on the real-life struggles of a 15-year-old girl named Aya who suffered from an incurable disease, but lived life to the fullest until her death at 25. The script is based on the diary Aya kept writing until she could no longer hold a pen. The book that later followed entitled “One Litre of Tears" has sold over 1.1 million copies in Japan alone. Fifteen year old Ikeuchi Aya was just a normal girl, soon to be high school student and daughter of a family who works at a shop that makes tofu. As time passed, unusual things started happening to Aya lately. She started falling down often and walking in a strange way. Her mother Shioka, takes Aya to see the doctor, and he informs Shioka that Aya has spinocerebellar degeneration - a terrible disease where the cerebellum of the brain gradually deteriorates to the point where the victim cannot walk, speak, write, or eat. A cruel disease, as it does not affect the mind in the least. How will Aya react when told about her disease? And how will Aya live from now on?

[Drama of the Week] Ouran Host Club (2/26-3/3/2012)

image copyright goes to miwa & TBS

I've never been a fan of the Ouran Host Club anime, and I have a few volumes of the manga with plans to buy the rest one day. I just couldn't get into the anime. The English voice cast just didn't fit and what I saw in Japanese wasn't much better. Now I'm not saying the drama was perfect or anything of that nature, in fact far from.... but it did catch and keep my attention long enough to finish the 11 episodes and to be excited about the movie coming out this month.

Runtime: 24 min/ep
# of episodes: 11 + movie
Type: Manga
Rating: Teen
Synopsis:
The story revolves around a high school girl named Fujioka Haruhi at the prestigious Ouran Academy, who stumbles upon a group of male students who have formed their own club as hosts. Accidentally breaking an antique vase, Haruhi ends up owing the club a vast amount of money, and she ends up posing as a host in order to repay her debt.
