First Impressions on the new Gundam anime, Gundam AGE.

It seems lately people have been voicing their opinions about the new gundam anime, Gundam AGE. And while some have accepted it, there seems to be a vast majority that are against it. Let me start off by saying I do accept other peoples opinions, even if some of them are, needless to say, rather uneducated opinions. I will admit, this first impression might lack some solid key points, but I am rather passionate about this.

First off, yes I will admit when I first heard about it, I was a little iffy about it, especially because of the new formula and concept. But as I started to do more research about it, finding whatever info I could find about it, the idea did grow on me. I originally said I would take this with a grain of salt. In other words, I would give it a fair chance and see what would transpire. But it seems most out there are not willing to give it the same chance. Chances are, the people that are not willing to give it a chance probably said the same thing about Gundam 00. That was different from most of the other Gundam animes, especially with the fact that it took place in our timeline, not a made up one like Universal Century or Cosmic Era.. Even the designs were different. But after a while, most accepted it because it was a fresh idea, and rather different. But why people are bashing AGE is still beyond me. Yes yes, we know that the protagonist is a little on the young side, probably around the same age as Uso Evin from Victory Gundam, but so what? Most of the protagonists are pretty much teenager age in the other series. Another thought that crosses my mind of why people have such a big disliking for this, is because of the antagonist, which is really not human, but extraterrestrial. Oh wow, the people in charge of this project decided to do something different Is that so wrong to mix things up a bit, to keep it fresh, and not let the material get stale like a bag of potato chips left open for several days?

If people would stop for a moment, and instead of bitching about how their favorite thing is changing for the next generation, but rather look at it and give it a fair chance, and not automatically assume it's going to be bad, well who knows. Heck, I'm not 100% certain that it'll be good, but I like to think it's better to be optimistic than pessimistic.

So I'm going to wrap this up with a solid "I like this new path", and until people can convince me otherwise, which I hope you have a time machine to travel into the future and find out that it is bad, I am sticking to my guns. I hope this little insight has possibly helped those out there to be a little more open minded.

This is striker0, and this is my first insight to the new Gundam anime, Gundam AGE.

  1. I'm liking the idea of this new take on Gundam myself, especially since it's going to be a way to bring in new fans who will find out there are a lot more Gundam anime out there.
